What to Look for in an Online Hair Extension Certification (Before You Spend $300–$4,800)

What a Certification Should Actually Include
Not all certifications are equal, even if they all hand you a certificate at the end. Before you commit, ask these questions:
Who teaches the course?
Some programs pair you with a contracted mentor — someone who learned the method secondhand. Others give you pre-recorded videos and a written quiz. Is instruction live or pre-recorded?
Pre-recorded videos are fine for learning theory. They’re not enough for learning technique. Extension work is physical — your angle, your pressure, your sectioning all affect the result. We use private 1:1 Zoom sessions after every module so Richard can watch your hands, correct in real time, and answer questions specific to your work. Not a group call. Not a webinar. One hour, one student, one instructor.
Do you get hair — or just a certificate?
Many programs charge $300–$4,800 and send you a certificate, a starter tool kit, and a link to buy hair separately. Our $3,500 course includes 8 bundles of European hair — roughly $960 in retail value. That’s enough to complete your first paying client. Your first appointment covers the cost of the entire course.
How long do you have access?
Some programs give you 60 days. After that, you lose access to the videos and materials. We give you lifetime access. The tablet that arrives in your kit is yours to keep, pre-loaded with every module. Revisit any lesson before a challenging client — forever.
What happens after you certify?
This is where programs diverge the most. Some hand you a certificate and a Facebook group. Others charge a monthly subscription ($125/month in some cases) for continued support and community access. At Extend USA, ongoing support is included — directly from Richard, at no additional cost, for as long as you need it.
What Makes the Extend USA Method Different

Placement anywhere on the head. Most extension systems — hand-tied wefts, tape-ins, beaded rows — are limited to the mid-head and below. Our resin bond method attaches extensions strand by strand, which means we can place them on the crown, in the bangs, at the hairline, and on top of the head. For clients with thinning hair or post-chemo regrowth as short as one inch, we’re the only option.
Custom color blending. We supply loose European hair, not pre-made wefts in fixed shades. Using our Drawing Matt system — designed by Richard and his wife, a professional hair colorist — you blend unlimited colors into a single extension. The result matches your client’s natural dimension, not just her base color.
European hair exclusively. Finer, softer, and naturally lighter than Indian Remy, Asian, or Russian Slavic hair. Needs less chemical processing. Blends with most U.S. clients’ natural hair. We’re the only certification program that uses it — and includes it in the price.

How the Course Works
Module 1: Installation Foundations. Full overview plus five step-by-step videos. Practice on your mannequin. Submit photos for feedback.
Module 2: Your First Solid Row. Build, photograph, and submit your work. Virtual check-in with Richard before moving forward.
Module 3: Custom Color Blending. Learn the Drawing Matt system. Practice solid and scattered row installations with blended color.
Module 4: Cutting, Styling & Live Model. Shape the final result. Work on a live model. Submit row-by-row photos for review.
Module 5: Business, Consultation & Marketing. Consultation frameworks, sectioning diagrams, pricing strategies, and social media guidance.
Certification: Live Zoom. Perform a one-row placement while Richard observes. No written test. No quiz. Demonstrated skill is the only standard. Certificate issued on completion.

The Math
The course is $3,500. A single extension appointment generates $2,000–$5,000. The hair in your kit covers your first full client.
Your first appointment pays for the course. Your second client is profit.
